Background

Dr. LaSala received her PhD in Nursing in 1995 with an emphasis on Nursing Administration and Public Policy from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  She completed her Master's in Nursing and received her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1983.  Her Bachelor's in Nursing was earned in 1980 from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.

Dr. LaSala's research has focused in several areas, including nursing and healthcare workforce issues, exploring barriers and enhancement factors, shortages and mal-distribution or providers, rural and urban issues, and health care policy; nursing education issues, including barriers, academic transitional issues, workplace/environment issues and interdisciplinary/intra-professional education; and tobacco cessation issues – including policy, intervention and evaluative studies.

Teaching

Dr. LaSala has extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels in nursing. She has taught multiple courses over the years, in BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD nursing programs, including: Pediatrics, maternal-child, community, health assessment, leadership & management, policy, finance, theory, research and evidenced based practice, and advanced practice nursing courses. She has supervised clinical courses, thesis, capstone and dissertation projects.

Dissemination

Dr. LaSala has disseminated her research through peer reviewed publications and abstracts in national and international conferences and professional meetings. In addition, tobacco research has been included in Governmental Publications.

Professional Practice

Dr. LaSala has practiced in obstetrics, acute/primary/rehabitation pediatric care and in public policy arenas. She has served as a RN and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
