Adjunct faculty within the College of Pharmacy are typically employed as temporary faculty members and salaried by the college. Adjunct faculty members may be employed by another unit or units at the university or at another institution. The adjunct faculty title may be expanded to adjunct clinical instructor, adjunct research assistant professor/adjunct clinical assistant professor, adjunct research associate professor/adjunct clinical associate professor, or adjunct research professor/adjunct clinical professor as appropriate to the status of the individual. This status is dictated within the College of Pharmacy by the current appointment and promotion guidelines for College of Pharmacy professional-track faculty. Adjunct faculty earn no credit toward tenure.

Appointment to adjunct instructor or adjunct clinical instructor requires that the candidate meet the criteria for adjunct instructoras outlined in the current USC Faculty Manual, and from ACAF 1.06 - Academic Titles for Faculty and Unclassified Academic Staff Positions:
To be eligible for appointment at the rank of clinical instructor, a faculty member
normally is expected to possess a master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a
master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate
semester hours in the teaching discipline).
Appointment to adjunct research assistant professor or adjunct clinical assistant professor requires that the candidate meet the criteria for research assistant professor or clinical assistant professor as outlined in the current USC Faculty Manual, and from ACAF 1.06 - Academic Titles for Faculty and Unclassified Academic Staff Positions:
To be eligible for appointment at the rank of research assistant professor or clinical
assistant professor, a faculty member normally is expected to hold the earned doctoral
degree or its equivalent and must possess strong potential for development as a teacher
and scholar. For clinical focused adjunct clinical assistant professors, the individual
must have strong potential for development as a clinician or practitioner. For research
focused adjunct research assistant professors, an individual must have research expertise
in his/her field.
Appointment to adjunct research associate professor or adjunct clinical associate
professor requires that the candidate meet the criteria for research associate professor
or clinical associate as outlined in the current appointment and promotion guidelines
for College of Pharmacy professional-track faculty. For questions about promotion,
