Role at the Center:

Jennifer Keup is the Director of The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. In this role she oversees all operational and strategic aspects of the National Resource Center including long range planning; supervision of program development and implementation; policy, personnel, and budget management; and serving as a liaison and representative of the NRC to the larger higher education community. In this capacity, she leads a team of professionals who coordinate the Center’s conferences, editorial projects, research and assessment, and public relations and resource development.

Before joining the staff of the National Resource Center, Jennifer served as the Director of the Student Affairs Information and Research Office (SAIRO) at UCLA and was the Director of Follow-Up Surveys at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI). She also was an instructor in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA where she taught courses on student development, education research, scholarly writing, and assessment. She has also served as an invited faculty member for the Institute on First-Year Seminar Leadership and Institute on First-Year Assessment, sponsored by the National Resource Center, as well as the CIRP Summer Workshop sponsored by the Higher Education Research Institute.

Jennifer’s research interests focus on students’ personal and academic development during the transition from high school to college; the influence of campus programming on adjustment to college; student development; assessment; and issues of institutional impact, responsiveness, and transformation in higher education. Her research agenda has yielded several presentations and scholarly publications; terms on the editorial boards of The Journal of College Student Development and the Journal of The First-Year Experience & Students in Transition, and The Journal of Learning Communities Research a leadership position with the ACPA Commission for Admission, Orientation, and First Year Experience.
