Welcome Graduate Leaders!  Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedules to help teach University 101. We hope you will find the information on our website a valuable resource throughout your graduate leader experience.

Who are Graduate Leaders?

The majority of graduate leaders for University 101 are second year Master’s students in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration program.  These students are aspiring to careers in higher education and benefit from the teaching experience and student interaction in their University 101 class.  These graduate students have the option of taking Internship in College Teaching (EDHE 834) where they will learn valuable teaching skills to apply while team teaching University 101.

We welcome graduate students of all programs to join our team!

How do I become a Graduate Leader?

Potential Graduate Leaders should contact Katharine Pei at peik@mailbox.sc.edu or Spencer Bennett at scbennett@sc.edu for more information. Graduate Leaders are required to participate in a one-day workshop held in the spring semester.

EDHE 834:

Graduate leaders can receive academic credit for taking EDHE 834 while team teaching University 101.  The course is designed to provide an opportunity for a supervised teaching experience.  Along with team teaching University 101, students are required to attend eight EDHE 834 class sessions during the semester, write a paper discussing their activities in teaching, and present research done on different “types” of students discovered in their University 101 class.  Grading is on an S/U basis.

Although this class is not required for Graduate Leaders, it is highly recommended to provide a holistic experience.
