Who is eligible?
The USC National Laboratories Office (NLO) has approximately 20 stipend enhancements in the amount of $10,000 per year to offer domestic graduate students, who would be designated “SRNL PhD Fellows.” Stipend enhancements are only for incoming PhD students entering USC in the summer of 2025 and afterwards. These enhancements are for the first two years of graduate study. These stipend enhancements are for incoming domestic doctoral students, matriculating in summer 2024 or later. Students who accept this SRNL Fellowship will be required to participate in some professional development events sponsored by NLO that will familiarize the Fellows with careers in DOE National Laboratories.” (no underline of course). Students must remain in good academic standing to receive the second year of fellowship support.
Support is intended for students who will be doing research and acquiring skills of
general interest to the Savannah River National Laboratory
- Engineering
- Computing and data science
- Physical sciences including biological and environmental sciences
Fellowship Possibilities
Our strategy is that these stipend enhancements, when added to a department’s normal PhD stipend, make the total compensation nationally competitive, and approaching the scale of a national fellowship from NSF, DOE, or DoD. After two years, stipends become the responsibility of the department. These students should also apply for lucrative national fellowships, with the support of the USC National Fellowships Office.
How to Apply
In order to receive this fellowship, a faculty member or graduate staff member must apply on behalf of the student. The application will open on February 1st and will close at the duration of the spring semester (closing date will be announced on the application).
