CENPhys

The SmartState Center for Experimental Nanoscale Physics, led by Endowed Chair Dr. Rongying Jin, hosts a state-of-the-art shared facility for the design, fabrication, and characterization of nanoscale materials.

Our Mission

The SmartState Center for Experimental Nanoscale Physics (CENPhys) conducts fundamental research in condensed matter physics and materials science. Through experiment, computation, and modeling, we aim to elucidate important interactions/couplings (between spin, charge, lattice and orbital) that are critical for emerging physical properties (electronic, magnetic, mechanical, optical, thermal, and topological). Materials and characterizations cover a wide range from bulk to nanoscale. Our goal is to understand and control the behavior of materials, and eventually discover new materials with desired properties.

The Center is designed to facilitate knowledge sharing (seminars and informal discussion) and collaboration between researchers at any career levels. We have unique expertise (Our People), materials (Crystal Gallery), and characterization tools (Equipment) for tackling grand challenges in materials physics.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
