Professor Desai’s primary research areas are language and meaning. He studies questions such as:
1. How are meanings of words and sentences represented in the brain?
2. Is the conceptual (thinking) system of the brain completely separate from the perceptual
(seeing, hearing, acting) systems of the brain?

In Dr. Desai’s lab, he uses function MRI, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and behavioral studies of patients and healthy individuals to address these questions.
