Lauren Martini Olson oversees the Intramural Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Fitness & Athletic Training programs, as well as directly manages the Sport Club program for the Office of Campus Recreation. Nearly 250 student employees and officers from over 50 sport clubs help her provide exceptional programming for more than 15,000 participants each year. She joined Campus Recreation in July 2006 as the intramural sports coordinator, was named intramural sports director in May 2009 and was appointed associate director of Campus Recreation, Programs in March 2016.

As a student at Miami of Ohio, Lauren worked for the intramural sports program for four years as an official, supervisor, office assistant and lead staff member. She also played, coached and served as president of the women’s club volleyball team.

Later at Indiana University, Lauren was an intramural graduate assistant working with officials, head officials, supervisors and participants to help run one of the largest programs in the country. She also served as an orientation program assistant, developing a “Sneak Peak” program for students and parents attending summer orientation to learn about IU Recreational Sports.

In addition to her position in Campus Recreation at USC, Lauren teaches University 101, serves on the Carolina Judicial Council and has been a member of several task forces for University 101 and Student Life.

Lauren has played volleyball since she was young and says the reason she got involved with intramural sports was because she began officiating. She continues to stay involved by officiating for the South Carolina High School League every fall.

Lauren earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services with an emphasis in sport organization from Miami University of Ohio in 2004 and a Master of Science in Recreational Sports Administration from Indiana University in 2006.

Not originally from the South, Lauren loves living in Columbia (especially the weather in the “winter”). Her favorite thing about working at USC and in the Department of Student Life is getting to network with so many amazing young professionals. She says that because USC hires people from all over, there are always so many new ideas and new projects in the works and that it is amazing to see what other people are doing and contribute to an ever-changing environment.
