  • Carolinian Magazine Winter 2018

    Gold ADDY Award
    Category: Publication Cover Design

For this cover, we wanted to create a nostalgic picture of USC in the 1970s amid the martial arts craze, with a closer look at a few of the students who made a name for themselves in karate. Improbably, USC became an epicenter of karate competition for a short time. The cover and story art channel the look of the period’s martial arts movies and comic book art to reinforce the story’s nostalgic feel.

  • Total Eclipse 2017

    Gold ADDY Award
    Special Judges’ Award
Category: Film/Video/Sound Branded Content, More Than :60 Seconds

This video, created in anticipation of 2017’s total solar eclipse, showcased the breadth of the university’s expertise. A diverse group of faculty members and researchers interested in the eclipse came from areas of study as diverse as physics and astronomy, geology, history and art. We also highlighted the fact that we were one of only a few universities able to conduct research during the total eclipse due to our location within the path of totality.

  • Teaching Excellence Awards

    Silver ADDY Award
    Category: Illustration Series

This publication profiles the winners of our prominent teaching awards. The book is part of a multichannel effort geared toward recognizing and retaining the best teachers among our university faculty. The publication’s illustration series was inspired by the principles embodied by the award winners: vision and innovation. Clean, contemporary icons point to clear vision. The many colors used tie into the university brand and represent the many ideas sparked by our award-winning faculty. Textured patterns bring depth to the modern icons.
