Each pillar shapes the core of our program and are essential to your growth and well-being, as a student, citizen, and future healthcare provider. Engagement of with our core pillars will offer you a strategic advantage, whether you are applying for graduate school or moving directly into the workforce upon graduation.

 

Our five core pillars include:

• Cultural Competence

  Awareness of, and sensitivity to, social, cultural, and linguistic differences. Through study abroad opportunities and discussions about global health care issues, you can develop an understanding of health care as it relates to culture, demographics and the world at large.
  

   

• Interprofessional Collaboration

  Make connections between ideas and concepts across different disciplinary boundaries. Interprofessional training will prepare you for graduate and professional study, and for careers in new and emerging fields.
  

   

• Effective Communication

  Knowing how to assess and effectively communicate information is an important skill set. Effective communication experiences will prepare you for graduate and professional study, for careers in new and emerging fields, and how to communicate to a broad range of people and institutions.
  

   

• Service 

  Cultivate empathy. Your acts of service can have a significant impact on people's lives and on organizations within your community. Take advantage of volunteer opportunities.
  

   

• Leadership
