Description

Engaging students in professional practice is an important part of many academic disciplines. Helping students to connect what they experience in professional practice with what they are learning in the classroom is an important part of creating informed and conscientious practitioners. Dr. Parlier will examine the use of service-learning and technology in a social work advocacy course in order to illustrate these connections. Strategies used to make these connections are applicable across disciplines.

About the Facilitator

Susan Parlier is Coordinator of the BSW program in the College of Social Work. She encourages students to engage outside the classroom and to use technology to develop competencies in critical thinking that are necessary for social work practice.
