SLIS 706 - Introduction to Information Technologies

Note: Please register for this course by August 17, 2017. Sections for this course: J50 SC (students living in SC); J91 Other States Cohort (students living in a state other than SC); J92 Other Countries Cohort (students living outside the US). J91 and J92 students pay the cohort tuition rate.
Information technologies in libraries, media centers, and other information agencies; operation and applications of computers and telecommunications; database design; online access methods.
Course will be delivered primarily via Blackboard but will include Camtasia presentations and may utilize other web applications. High-speed internet access required.
Online Session Information
There will be optional online sessions via Adobe Connect on Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:30 p.m ET. Students may participate live online for the sessions or may view them at a later time. Students are responsible for all material covered. Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard by the instructor prior to the first class meeting. High-speed Internet access is required for Adobe Connect.
Course Delivery Type
A Web course is taught using one or more web delivery platforms such as Blackboard, Streaming Video, Adobe Connect etc. Students must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More information will be provided by the instructor in the course syllabus.
(100% asynchronous - if course has any online or face-to-face meetings, live attendance will not be required. For any such sessions, there will be alternative ways to view or obtain the material covered).
Textbooks are available from the USC University Bookstore in the Russell House Student Union, Greene Street, Columbia, SC, 803-777-4160 (toll free at 888-654-5320). Online text ordering is available through the bookstore Web site at www.shopgamecocks.com. Delivery options are in-store pickup or UPS shipping (Ground, Second Day, or Next Day). Students are required to indicate their course section to order online; there will be a "J" prefix on the course SECTION number for this course. Special Fee Notification
Students may be required to be proctored during online test completion. If students are unable to attend test proctoring sessions in person at the Distributed Learning office, additional fees may apply for online test proctoring if the course requires online testing.
