Carolyn Harmon, DNP, RN-BC

Dr. Harmon received her DNP in Executive Leadership with a nursing informatics research focus from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2014), Masters in Nursing with a Health Systems Management specialty from Queens University of Charlotte (2003), and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Bluefield State College (1995). She began her nursing career after receiving her Associate of Science Degree from Bluefield State College in 1993. In addition, Dr. Harmon is a Board Certified Informatics Nurse as well as a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
Dr. Harmon has developed and taught RN-BSN and graduate-level courses in informatics and leadership. She also has experience teaching pre-licensed courses such as advanced medical-surgical, mental health, and nursing leadership/capstone courses. Additionally, Dr. Harmon has taught general education health and wellness courses as well as interprofessional computer and data analysis courses.
Research (Concept Areas)
Nurses’ Perception of the Electronic Health Record
Dr. Harmon’s research focused on a five-year study of nurses’ perception of the electronic health record (EHR) as they transitioned from paper documentation to an EHR.
Dr. Harmon disseminated her nursing informatics research through peer-reviewed journal publication as well as local, regional, and national conference presentations.

Dr. Harmon has practiced in hospital administration, quality management, informatics, clinical transformation, nursing education, and case management. Her clinical experience includes: cardiovascular recovery, emergency nursing, and ambulatory care.
