Dean Teri Browne's Letter to Alumni

Hello alumni!

We’re excited to share some updates with you regarding our recent activities and future endeavors.

First, we’re excited to tell you that our inaugural Maymester trip to Japan was a resounding success. Our students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in rich culture and the vibrant society of Japan with valuable learning experiences. Led by our Student Services BSW leader Anna May, Field Education Director Melissa Reitmeier and Assistant Dean for Students Sonya Singleton, they explored various aspects of social work practice in Japan and fostered connections with local organizations and professionals. The trip proved to be an unforgettable journey of personal growth.

In addition to the Japan trip, we are delighted to continue our partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS). This collaboration has enabled us to establish BSW Scholarships, aimed at supporting talented individuals pursuing their BSW degree. Through these scholarships, we are fostering the next generation of social workers who will make a significant impact on the lives of individuals and communities in need. We are grateful for SC DSS's support and recognition of the importance of social work education.

We are excited to share that we have some new and innovative programs on the horizon. Our faculty and staff have been working diligently to develop innovative initiatives that align with emerging trends in the field of social work. These programs will equip our students with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to address the complex challenges of our ever-changing society. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand our educational offerings.

As our treasured alumni, your continuous support and engagement are invaluable to us. We encourage you to join us in celebrating our successes. Your contributions, whether through networking, advocacy, our Career Connections program or nominating a fellow social worker for our “Trailblazer” series play a crucial role in shaping the future of our profession.

We look forward to keeping you informed about our upcoming events and initiatives. Please stay connected with us through our alumni network and social media channels. Together we’ll continue to build a strong community of social work professionals dedicated to making a positive difference in the world.
