The South Caroliniana Library reopens March 2 with new hours and procedures.

After closing for five weeks to move collections out of the historic building, the reading room will reopen to patrons although the walls and shelves will be bare.

Collections are now housed in offsite locations until renovations can be made to safely store the library’s one-of-a-kind treasures in the 175-year-old structure.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our patrons during this time, and are pleased to report the collections were moved without incident,” said Henry Fulmer, director of the South Caroliniana Library.  “Beginning Monday, collections will be accessible through a different process.”

Researchers must contact reference staff in advance of their visits via email at sclref@mailbox.sc.edu or by phone at 803-777-3132 to allow for delivery of collection items to the library. There are restrictions on the amount of material that can be requested at a time since it must be retrieved from remote locations.

The library also will have new hours of operation.  The reading room will be open to patrons from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.  There are no weekend hours at this time because of delivery and onsite storage constraints.
