Online Mandatory Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training FAQs
Why are we taking Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training?
The Carolinian Creed calls us to the highest standard of civility and respect for
one another. Not only must we model the behaviors that we expect from our students,
but we must also actively inform ourselves on issues surrounding diversity, social
justice, equality, discrimination and human relations.
Why is the training mandatory?
The training is sponsored by the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs (and supported
by the Division of Human Resources) and fulfills a commitment to educate all South
Carolina faculty and staff about issues related to Title IX, which prohibits discrimination
on the basis of sex in any education program or activity that receives federal funding.
How do I access training?
You will receive an email from the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs to your university
email account that will include a link that takes you directly to the course. You
can also access the training link on the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs website.
As the deadline approaches, you will receive reminder emails containing the link to
prompt you to complete training.
How long does the training take to complete?
Estimates vary; however, it may take you two to four hours to complete the mandatory
training module.
You said only one course is mandatory. Why do three courses appear in my training
link?
The only mandatory requirement is to complete the Harassment and Discrimination Prevention
Training. Two other courses called “Diversity: Inclusion in the Modern Workplace”
and “EDU: Clery Act Basics” are optional but encouraged. For all courses you complete,
you will have the opportunity to print a “Certificate of Completion” to present to
your supervisor.
What if I have to exit/stop before completing the whole course, will I have to start
over again?
No, the training module is broken down into segments. If you can’t complete your training
in a single session, you can log out of the module and then log back in at your convenience
using the same link. The program will take you to the segment where you left off.
Will I have to repeat this training every year?
No, once we have all current employees trained, you will only be required to complete
a 25-minute refresher course in subsequent years. This training will become part of
the onboarding process for all new employees to ensure that everyone is properly trained.
What happens if I do not complete the training by December 15?
Your supervisor will receive a report that indicates which employees have not completed
the training, and the supervisor will follow-up accordingly.
Where can I get help if I have technical issues completing the training?
If you experience technical issues with the training program, please use the “help”
button located in the module. If you have general questions about the training as
a whole, please email the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs at EOP@mailbox.sc.edu.
