About this Fellowship

The Social Science Research Council Data Fluencies Dissertation grant supports PhD candidates working on projects that mobilize new knowledge and aim to foster more just and equitable futures in the realm of data. This opportunity is open to students in the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, data sciences, and related fields.

Grants are open to students who are using humanist or humanistic social science methods in their research to investigate data-related issues including (but not limited to): mis- and disinformation, information integrity, public interest technology, digital culture, privacy and surveillance, AI and algorithmic management, labor in the era of data, big data governance and accountability, and alternative epistemologies stemming from feminist, Indigenous, or Black theoretical perspectives. Applicants must be ABD by the time the grant begins.


Award Value

Provides up to $15,000 to support dissertation research expenses.
