Don’t wait around for a study group. Create one on your own!
a. Find people who have the same academic goals as you.
b. Pay attention to who is attentive in class. (Who takes notes? Who participates in class? Who answers the professor’s questions?)

Talk to the TA/Professor about setting up the group.
ii. Announce to the class that you are forming a study group.
iii. Use Blackboard to communicate with other students.
c. Set a limit for the number of people in your group. The most effective groups have 4 to 6 people.
d. Approach those you wish to study with a set-up an informal meeting to see how well you get along.
i. Discuss possible responsibilities.
ii. Gather contact information.
iii. Discuss meeting schedule.
e. Schedule your first study group session!
Meeting one
a. Question each other on the material.
b. Review notes and make sure there are no gaps in your notes.
c. “Teach” the concept. In order to teach the concept you must really know the concept!
d. Predict test questions and answer them!
e. Assign someone to be the session leader who makes sure the group remains on track!
f. Evaluate the successfulness of the session.
i. Did everyone contribute?
ii. How can we improve our efforts?
iii. Was this session beneficial?
g. Plan the next session. Give assignments if applicable.
