Welcome to the Capstone Scholars Program.
Capstone Scholars are a select group of students at the University of South Carolina committed to academic excellence. First-year students are invited to the program based on their academic qualifications demonstrated during the undergraduate application process. The Capstone Scholars Program is open to students from all majors. All students applying to the University by the December 1 deadline are considered for invitation to the Capstone Scholars Program.
The Capstone Scholars Program is an educational enrichment program, designed to provide opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Special sections of English 101, English 102, University 101, and University 290 help to create an academic bond among the Scholars. Special housing opportunities group students by major, making it easier to find study partners and fostering a sense of community. Through the Capstone Cinema and Capstone Conversation series, Scholars are able to interact with prominent faculty and community members. The Study Abroad Office partners with the Capstone Scholars to lead a Capstone Abroad Maymester course. In 2006, Scholars traveled to London or Ireland. In 2007, the Maymester trip was to China. In 2008, students traveled to either Greece or Japan. In 2009, Scholars will compete for a partial grant to travel to either Italy or Peru. Other campus offices offer programs specifically for Capstone Scholars. More information about these offices can be found on the Partnering Offices page.
The Capstone Scholars Staff are dedicated to seeing our Scholars succeed. We encourage them to Dream Big and to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible.
