News

We have great plans to make our program bigger and better in 2007-08. For more information about Program changes in 2007, read our Annual Report.

For a full recap of the Fall Semester, recognition of our students and a preview of the Spring semester, check out our Winter newsletter here.

Announcing the first-ever Capstone Scholars Fellows
The Capstone Scholars Program would like to congratulate the first-ever Capstone Scholars Fellows Award recipients! The awards were presented at the Sophomore Banquet in April of 2008. Our new Capstone Fellows are Andrew Fath, Kimberly Poole, and Katelyn Tambellini. The Fellows Award recognizes Capstone Scholars who actively participate in the Capstone Scholars Program and Partner Office activities, thus allowing them to earn further distinction by becoming a Capstone Scholars Fellow. Students meeting the requirements will be recognized at the end of their second year. Capstone Scholars Fellows requirements and additional information can be found here.

Capstone Scholars Courses
The Capstone Scholars Program has established a partnership with the English department to provide Capstone-specific sections of English 101 and English 102. Scholars also take a Capstone-specific section of University 101. Capstone Scholars also have the option of taking University 290, a colloquium course that covers a broad range of topics. More information about our spring course offerings can be found here.

Undergraduate Research
If you are interested in getting involved with undergraduate research, check out the Magellan Scholars Program.

The Capstone Scholars Program would like to congratulate first and second-year Capstone Scholars Ryan Burke, Adam Fox, Hakeem Jefferson, Duggan MacDonald, and Erin Turner for being chosen as Magellan Scholars for the Summer and Fall 2008 semesters. Third-year Scholar, Casey O'Niell, was also chosen.
To date, twenty-one Capstone Scholars have received Magellan Scholar Awards.

New Hours at the Study Shack
Despite our best efforts to increase usage of the Study Shack this semester, the Study Shack remains highly underutilized. Therefore, we have decided to no longer open the Study Shack during evening hours. The Study Shack will still be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Study Shack is located next door to the Capstone Scholars Office at 11 Gibbes Court. It features a full kitchen, a TV with a VCR and DVD player, a balcony, and four distinct study areas, all equipped with wireless internet access. It is a great place to go for individual or group study.
