Dr. Sara Schwebel Given "Breakthrough Award" and University of California Press Book Contract!

Dr. Sara Schwebel, Associate Professor of English, has been given one of the University of South Carolina's prestigious "Breakthrough Awards."

Dr. Schwebel is currently working on a project with the Channel Islands National Park that will link the National Park Service with children’s literature through a multimedia website and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research centered on the popular book “Island of the Blue Dolphins,” which has taught generations of schoolchildren California history and the mythic trope of the “vanishing American Indian.”  She recently signed a book contract with the University of California Press for a critical edition of the novel.

In addition, Dr. Schwebel has been awarded a Special Projects Grant ($10,000) from The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution that will allow her to focus on her research in the next academic year.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
