Dr. Amy Hildreth has joined the Department of Surgery as the new department chair. A native of Columbia, SC, she received her M.D. degree from USC SOM Columbia in 2002. She completed her residency and surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, TN. She joined the faculty of Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2008, rising to the rank of Professor of Surgery. She held a number of leadership roles at Wake Forest School of Medicine, including third year medical student clerkship director, Associate Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery, and Surgery Residency Program Director (2015-2023). She served as chair of the North Carolina chapter of the American College of Surgeons from 2021-2022. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in surgical care of trauma and for surgical education.
