Biography

Alvin Lee Day, MD, RhMSUS, CCD, FACP is a Clinical Assistant Professor and clinician-educator in the Division of Rheumatology. He is the Section Chief of Rheumatology at the Columbia VA Health Care System and the Medical Director of the Bone Health Clinic at Prisma Senior Specialty Care. Dr. Day’s academic interests include general rheumatology, musculoskeletal ultrasound, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, quality bone densitometry, and medical education. He is active in the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR) and American College of Physicians. Dr. Day is currently a committee chair in the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) and has served as a metabolic bone disease subject area expert for the American College of Rheumatology Continuing Assessment Review Evaluation (CARE) program.

Dr. Day received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, completed his residency in internal medicine at Prisma Health, also in Columbia, and completed a fellowship in rheumatology at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He has additional certifications in musculoskeletal ultrasound and clinical densitometry. Dr. Day is a co-author of the Manual of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound A Self-Study, Protocol-Based Approach.
