Ann Gowdy is a licensed clinical social worker and board-approved supervisor in South Carolina (SC). She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Emmanuel College, a master's and doctoral degree in social work from the University of Georgia.

Professional experience in the field of social work. Ann’s focus is on inclusivity and problem solving from a person-centered, strengths-based perspective, with the goal of transforming intentions and ideas into actions with measurable results. Centered in the community as a social worker, her experiences provide a solid demonstration of the continuum of social work. Ann’s professional experience includes case management, comprehensive assessments, mental health therapy, clinical supervision for licensure, innovative program development, community education, local coalition building, system-wide collaboration, state-level board leadership (South Carolina Interagency Council on Homelessness), organizational executive leadership and policy development. She has worked in the issue spaces of juvenile justice, child welfare, homelessness, youth and young adult homelessness, in both state agency and nonprofit settings. Her practice includes cross-sector efforts to break down barriers, starting with building relationships and connecting policies, people and problems at a systems level. Ann holds a deep understanding of the intersections of issues and assets across multiple systems.

Teaching. Ann has almost a decade of experience teaching in CSWE-accredited institutions at the undergraduate and master’s level. With the College of Social Workj she has taught across the curriculum, served as a field instructor and a field education liaison.

Imagining the community as a sprawling classroom, she has experience providing educational training within agencies, professional presentations, along with leadership in a community educational series.  She has presented at the local and state level regarding homelessness specific to cross-sector collaboration, youth and young adults, along with diversity, equity and inclusion.

Ann is a South Carolinian with roots in her hometown community, understanding rural life and practicing in the state. She uses knowledge and connections for state-level collaboration and change.
