October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All month long, campus offices will host events to educate students, faculty and staff on how to stay safe.

Currently, SC ranks first in the nation for number of homicides caused by criminal domestic violence. To keep the UofSC family safe and educated, the Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention and Prevention (SAVIP) office has partnered with UofSC's Division of Law Enforcement and Safety to host a women's self-defense workshop on Oct. 2.

Attorney General Alan Wilson will host the 18th annual Silent Witness Domestic Violence Ceremony at the Statehouse on Oct. 6.

Student Health Services also has a number of events planned. On Oct. 13, the Empty Place on the Table display will be on Davis Circle from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to symbolize all of the lives taken by domestic violence.

Stay on the lookout for more events and informational sessions throughout the month.
