As a run up to Rivalry Week, the USC Marching Band and the Clemson University Marching Band are going head-to-head in friendly competition to save lives. Fans can register to become bone marrow donors, 5:30-8 p.m., Nov. 12, at Copenhaver Band Hall, located at 324 Sumter St.

For the past three years, the Carolina Band has registered more than 225 students with Be the Match, a global leader in bone marrow transplantation. And three current band members have donated bone marrow to patients in need.

The registration process takes only 10 minutes and includes a cheek swab.

“We encourage residents in the Midlands to come and register,” says Cormac Cannon, the director of the band.
