Business futurist Gavin Serkin to discuss emerging markets Oct. 27

Gavin Serkin with Bloomberg News will discuss his recently released book, “Frontier: Exploring the Top Ten Emerging Markets of Tomorrow,” on Tuesday (Oct. 27) at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business.

Serkin’s talk, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the Moore School. Like his book, his talk will focus on how investors can successfully explore markets that are yet to emerge by learning to spot opportunities while minimizing risk.

After his talk, Serkin will sign books, which will be available for sale, by the University Bookstore (Barnes and Noble).

“Gavin Serkin will present a wealth of information on emerging market economies that will be applicable to anyone interested in international business,” said Colin Jones, an assistant professor of finance at the Moore School.

Serkin has written about developing economies for the past two decades. He served as the editor of Portfolio International magazine and recently as the head of the emerging markets international desk for Bloomberg News in London. His book, “Frontier,” was released in late April and published by Bloomberg Press.

He won the Society of American Business Editors & Writers’ Best in Business Award and the Society of Professional Journalists’ Deadline Club Award for his coverage of the credit and derivatives markets from 2004 to 2008.

Serkin’s talk is sponsored by The Challenge 4 Change Initiative, a nonprofit that teaches financial literacy and crime prevention; International Day of Reconciliation, an annual event to promote world peace and human rights; and “There Is No Right Way To Do Wrong,” a film targeting youth that promotes success through education and hard work.

While the event is free, visit the Moore School events calendar or call 803-777-3176 to RSVP.
