Who was Galen?

A well-read scholar with a curious mind that led him to become the leading authority in medical theory, Galen was a highly-esteemed physician, surgeon and philosopher during the reign of the Roman Empire. His theories held court for more than 1,400 years and his philosophic and theoretical writings influenced the development of a variety of scientific disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and neurology. Galen's legacy embodies our vision for Galen Health Fellows. He was curious and open-minded. He loved to read, study and observe patterns and relationships in the world in order to make novel connections.
