The Office of the Vice President for Research is hosting a series of virtual professional development workshops for undergraduate student researchers this summer. We invite all interested student researchers to participate in these workshops.

Topics and dates for the virtual workshops in this series listed below, and available for download in our PDF flier. There is no registration required to attend these sessions, and all undergraduate researchers from all disciplines, including UofSC students and those visiting from other institutions, are welcome to participate.

All workshops in the Research: Next Steps to Success series will be held virtually using MS Teams, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Links to each individual workshop will be posted on this page about 24 hours before the workshop is scheduled to begin.

Reflecting on Your Research Experience                                                 

Wednesday, June 23, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Presented by Dr. Charles Pierce, Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering   and Senior Faculty Associate, Center for Experiential and Integrative Learning

This interactive workshop will introduce integrative learning and engage students in reflective thinking and writing exercises about their research experiences.

Presented by Ms. Briahnna Ismail, Assistant Director of Student Services, Office of Undergraduate Research                   

This workshop will provide guidance on crafting effective resumes and cover letters in a format tailored to undergraduate research students.

In this workshop, a panel of faculty and graduate students will discuss reasons to consider graduate school, M.S. vs. Ph.D. programs, and how to be a competitive candidate for graduate school. This workshop will also explain options for funding your graduate education, including assistantships and fellowships.

This panel discussion will feature a discussion of the graduate school application process, with emphasis on how to select a graduate program and what to consider when looking for a graduate advisor. Common parts of application packages will be discussed, including research/personal statements, resumes and recommendation letters.
