USC Acquires Sports Business Journal Subscription

Some 600 students a semester will save more than $100 thanks to a new subscription to The Sports Business Journal (SBJ) recently acquired by University Libraries.

Access to SBJ is now available at no charge to anyone with a USC-affiliated login, which will be welcome news to the hundreds of students in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management for whom the journal is required reading each semester. Brent Appling, Collection Assessment Librarian who spearheaded the acquisition, explained that saving those students the $129 cost of an individual subscription was the impetus behind the Libraries’ decision to provide campus-wide access to SBJ.

The Sports Business Journal is a publication that provides its audience with all things in the world of sports news. They cover the classics, like basketball, baseball and football, as well as up-and-coming sports that have recently begun to gain some traction, like pickleball. They publish weekly, and daily content to keep their readers up to date on what’s going on in the world of sports, from stats to business deals, even touching on what’s new in the world of sports facilities and franchises. It is the perfect tool for anyone whose interests lie in the intersection of the sports and business world.

“The Library is here to support the academic needs of our students and faculty,” says David Banush, Dean of Libraries. “This resource has been among the most frequently requested and supports a program with growing enrollment. I’m please we were able to make it available to the entire campus this year.” While the SBJ subscription will be valuable to students in the College of HRSM, it will also be valuable for students with interests in sports business, sports journalism, sports broadcasting or with an interest in sports in general. While it is a great way to keep up with the business side of sports, it’s also an informative journal that allows members of the USC community to keep up with their favorite teams.
