Beyond the Classroom

Academic Organizations 

Joining a professional organization as a student is a great way to get a head start on networking, to see how other professional are applying their degree and to learn about career opportunities. 

Alpha Kappa Delta

Our department hosts the GAMMA chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociological honor society. Sociology majors and other students with a serious interest in sociology may be eligible to become members. Look for announcements each year concerning this opportunity. 

American Sociological Association

The American Sociological Association is a great way to stay involved with sociologists around the country, keep up on the latest research and get additional career resources when you're ready to graduate. As a student, you're eligible for a discounted membership rate. 

Southern Sociological Association

The Southern Sociological Association is an organization dedicated to promoting sociology throughout the South. Your discounted student membership will get you access to the newsletters, announcements and subscription to their magazine, Social Currents

American Sociological Association

The American Sociological Association, founded in 1905, is the national professional membership association for sociologists and others who are interested in sociology. ASA’s mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a science and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. ASA members include students, scholars and teachers working in a full range of educational institutions, and people employed in government agencies and nonprofit and private sector organizations.

INSNA

INSNA is the professional association for researchers interested in social network analysis. The association is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Delaware and founded by Barry Wellman in 1977.

Population Association of America (PAA)

The Population Association of America (PAA) is a nonprofit, scientific, professional organization established to promote and support high-quality population research. PAA members include demographers, sociologists, economists, public health professionals, and other individuals interested in research and education in the population field. PAA membership has grown to 3,000 reflecting professional interest in the population field.
