Walker Institute Partners with Student-Organized Cancer Prevention Week

The Walker Institute is proud to support USC’s first student-organized Cancer Prevention Week (Monday, April 1st – Friday, April 5th, 2024). Honors College seniors, Karthik Rangavajhula and Allie McDermott, have organized an engaging week of events to promote conversations about healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention.

Through discourse founded on scientific knowledge, guided activities conducive to healthy lifestyles, and community engagement to strengthen ties between USC and Columbia, we aim to bring awareness to an issue that hits closer to home than many may imagine and arm students to better manage their health from an informed standpoint.

The Walker Institute’s April Palmetto Forum will be a featured event during the Cancer Prevention Week. This month’s Palmetto Forum centers around Blue Zones, areas of the world that have a high number of centenarians and lower rates of chronic diseases. An emphasis on healthy living lies within the core of Blue Zones and cancer prevention, thus sparking the partnership.

We are proud of these students for organizing the Cancer Prevention Week and look forward to their events! We would also like to give Karthik Rangavajhula a special thank you for helping amplify our Blue Zones Palmetto Forum!
