Unlike other centers, the CBC employs only full-time faculty members as consultants. Everyone who works in the center is a member of the Moore School faculty with an advanced degree. In addition to being teachers, our consultants have business and industry experience, are published authors and understand the writing process and what it means to create great work.
Communications Consulting Services
Students interested in improving their performance on course assignments, their applications and personal statements, and their team projects and presentations come to the CBC for assistance with researching and organizing material, writing, revising, editing, rehearsing or simply getting started on a project.
Faculty can receive support for written assignments in their classes and assistance with assignment development via a series of in-class workshops.
For spring 2021, the CBC is offering virtual, synchronous appointments. Schedule your time at moore.mywconline.net no later than midnight the day before your desired appointment time.
- After you schedule your appointment, you will receive an appointment confirmation email.
- On the day of your appointment – just a few minutes prior to the meeting start time – open up your appointment window on the CBC schedule and click the provided Zoom link to meet with your consultant.
If you cannot attend your appointment, please cancel as soon as possible. After two no-show appointments, clients will be blocked from the CBC scheduling system for the remainder of the semester.
Please note: we are not an editing service. Our job is to work with you to improve your own writing and presentation skills and your ability to evaluate the skills of others. To that end, we will not:
- Write for you
- Proofread or edit for you
- Guarantee a better grade
- Or grade papers
Spring 2021 Calendar of Events
The Center for Business Communication is offering a “First Fridays” series of 45-minute workshops for students wanting to sharpen their “soft” skills. All Moore School students are welcome to these Zoom workshops led by Moore School faculty. Register online.
Do you love meetings? Or would you prefer an email instead? A poorly structured meeting can kill all the enthusiasm in an organization. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to lead an effective meeting from start to finish. We’ll discuss remote meetings, agendas, and minutes, and we’ll leave time at the end for small group consultations on your own meeting woes.
Is getting your team to successfully plan, write, and revise the team documents kind of like herding cats? Let the CBC provide you with tips and tricks to make the collaborative writing process less painful. This workshop will cover best practices for the collaborative writing process from dividing up the work to planning, writing and reviewing the documents.
Are you teaching for the first time while also balancing your own graduate coursework and research? Let the CBC assist you with developing your approach to the classroom. In this workshop, we’ll cover how to develop classroom presence, how to communicate effectively with students, and how to and develop clear assignments and evaluations. You can expect to take away sample assignments, syllabi and rubrics. We will also close the session with a round table discussion during which you can ask all your teaching-related questions and receive ideas from your peers and CBC faculty.
Bring your journal articles, theses, and dissertations and work in a supportive virtual environment. CBC consultants will be available to assist by answering questions that arise and providing feedback as your work on your drafts.
