Beginner's Guitar Course

Students ages 6 to 18 learn to perform solo, duet and ensemble pieces in a group setting. Instructors choose the required materials to promote the best learning environment.

Classes are divided into two age groups, 6 to 12 and 12 to 18. Adult classes are sometimes offered if there is sufficient interest.  Both classes meet every Tuesday at the USC School of Music building.

  • Beginner's guitar class I – a 10-week course designed for the beginner guitar student looking to learn the basics of music notation, chords, picking and strumming technique.
  • Beginner's guitar class II – this 10-week course is a continuation of Beginner's Guitar Class I. If you have already had some basic experience in playing or you have already taken Beginner's Guitar Class I, you can start with this group after consulting with the instructor.

A concert takes place on the last day of the course, giving students an opportunity to perform and share what they learned with their parents and guests.

After completing the beginner’s course, students have an opportunity to continue their education by applying to a second session of the class, offered in the spring term. Continuation of private lessons is also an option.

Cost

$125 plus a classroom material fee of $5. Please make two separate checks: $125 tuition payable to the USC School of Music; $5 materials fee paid directly to the instructor, Alma Sehic.
