  • Feb. 5: Graduate Vocal Ensemble concert. 5:30 p.m., School of Music recital hall.

USC Symphony Orchestra

Directed by Maestro Donald Portnoy. All concerts are held in the Koger Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Carolina Coliseum box office or by calling 803-251-2222. For additional information, please contact the symphony office, 803-777-7500. Ticket prices are as follows: adults, $25; seniors, faculty and staff, $20; students, $8. Season tickets are available.

  • Feb. 17: James Ackley, associate professor of trumpet, will perform Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto,” Haydn’s “Sinfonia Concertante” and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.”

  • Feb. 3: Clifford Leaman Faculty Saxophone Recital, The Ambassador Duo. 7:30 p.m. Clifford Leaman, professor of saxophone at the University of South Carolina, and Derek Parsons, keyboard professor from Furman University, perform music from Baroque to recent avant-garde works for saxophone and piano. Leaman and Parsons have recorded three CDs together.
  • Feb. 5: Robert Pruzin faculty horn recital. 7:30 p.m. Pruzin is professor of horn at the University of South Carolina.
  • Feb. 7: Kenneth Martinson guest artist viola recital. 3 p.m. Martinson, assistant music professor at the University of Florida, will perform music by German composer Paul Hindemith.
  • Feb. 8: Jennifer Parker-Harley faculty flute recital. 3 p.m. Parker-Harley, an assistant professor of flute at the University of South Carolina, will perform her first concert at the university.
  • Feb. 16: Saxton Rose guest artist bassoon recital. 5:30 p.m. Rose is professor of bassoon at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
  • Feb. 16: Mariano Jimenez Garcia guest artist saxophone recital. 7:30 p.m.
  • Feb. 18: Trombones de Costa Rica. 7:30 p.m. Winners of the Costa Rican National Award of Music in 1997, Trombones de Costa Rica is one of the most innovative and virtuosic brass ensembles of the American Continent.
  • Feb. 19: William Yelverton guest artist guitar recital. 7:30 p.m. Yelverton, professor of music and director of guitar studies at Middle Tennessee State University, will perform South American music by Antonio Lauro, Agustin Barrios and Egberto Gismonti and Spanish music by Joaquin Rodrigo and Turina.

Bands and percussion ensembles

Recitals and concerts featuring University of South Carolina musicians. University bands are led by James Copenhaver, director of bands; George Brozak, associate director of bands, director of athletic bands and director of “The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” marching band; and Rebecca Phillips, associate director of bands.     • Feb. 20: USC University Band. 4:45 p.m.

    • Feb. 21: USC Concert Band. 7:30 p.m.
    • Feb. 21: Palmetto Concert Band. 8:45 p.m.
