School of Music recital to feature faculty

The School of Music at the University of South Carolina will present an evening of music featuring trumpet, trombone and piano March 5 in the school’s recital hall.

Trumpeter James Ackley and trombonist Brad Edwards will team up with pianist Joseph Rackers for the 7:30 p.m. performance, which is free and open to the public.

The program will include Jacques Casterede’s rare “Concertino,” Juan Antonio Cuellar’s “Phrygian Variations,” Eugene Bozza’s “Four Sketches,” and “Divertimento” by Boris Blacher.

The program also will include an assortment of solo pieces.

Ackley is an Andes International Artist trumpet soloist and has appeared throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. He also is principal trumpet with the Augusta Symphony.

Edwards has performed with the Charleston Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the brass choir of the National Symphony, the Hartford Symphony, the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra and the Baltimore Opera Orchestra.

Rackers has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia as a soloist and chamber musician.
