University announces upcoming dates for ‘Healthy Carolina Farmers Market’
Healthy Carolina Farmers Market, the University of South Carolina’s new farmers market launched last fall, will operate Feb. 24, March 24 and April 14 during the spring semester.
The public is invited to join university students, faculty and staff to buy fresh products from farmers in central South Carolina. The market will operate from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. between the gates on Greene Street in front of the Russell House University Union. Products are competitively priced, and most vendors accept only cash. Produce and products are sold individually and in bulk.
Hundreds from the university and community have attended the market since it began. Products include natural and organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meat products, cheeses, eggs, pecans and boiled peanuts, jams, baked items, honey, soaps and candles, handmade items such as wool blankets and socks and natural pet treats.
The market is part of the university’s Healthy Carolina Initiative, which aims to make healthy choices simple. The university has teamed with the S.C. Department of Agriculture to offer the monthly markets.
