USC Concert Choir to perform ‘St. Matthew Passion’
The University of South Carolina’s Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra will perform William Averitt’s “St. Matthew Passion” at 4p.m., Sunday, March 7 in Averyt Hall of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
The performance will be a sneak peak of sorts for the choir, which will later perform the dramatic and emotional piece at the Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors’ Association in Memphis. The latter performance, one of the convention’s headline shows, will take place March 10 – 14.
Admission for the Columbia concert is $10, and the proceeds will be used to support the travel of the 90 performers for the Memphis performance.
Also performing will be 2001 USC graduate Scott Guinn, a baritone, and assistant professor of voice Tina Stallard, a soprano. Larry Wyatt, director of choral studies, organized the original commission and will conduct the performances.
