Homecoming will be ‘Crazy for Carolina’
The University of South Carolina students, faculty and alumni are celebrating Homecoming week Nov. 1 – 6 with a series of festive events to display Gamecock pride.
This year’s Cockfest will take place at 7 p.m. on Greene Street, outside the Russell House. The Carolina band and cheerleaders will be present along with coaches. Fans can enjoy free barbecue at an old-fashioned pig-pickin’ after the rally.
The event is free and open to the public.
Homecoming week’s events include the “Crazy for Carolina” parade and Carolina Alumni Homecoming Celebration and Awards Gala on Friday, Nov. 5; and game-day celebration on Saturday, Nov. 6, when the Gamecocks take on the University of Arkansas in a key Southeastern Conference football contest. Other events during the week include a display of student-made banners on Greene Street that show Carolina spirit and a Black Alumni Council celebration.
The “Crazy for Carolina” parade will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, originating at the Facilities Center at the corner of Greene and Gadsden streets and continuing through campus. Baseball coach Ray Tanner will serve as grand marshal, and members of the 2010 national champion baseball team will participate. The parade will feature spirit-themed floats built by various student organizations.
The Carolina Alumni Homecoming Celebration and Awards Gala will be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, and will feature great food, alumni awards, music and fun to kick off the weekend. Tickets are $39 and can be purchased at mycarolina.org or by calling 803-777-4111.
The annual Homecoming game-day celebration will take place at the National Guard Armory three hours before kickoff. The tailgate party will have great food and live music by the Fabulous Keys. Gamecock football greats from previous eras will attend and sign autographs, and special reunions are planned for teams from from 1950, 1960, 1970 and 1980. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children under the age of 10 and can be purchased at mycarolina.org or by calling 803-777-4111.
