FULBRIGHT GRANT
Workshop: Monday, August 25, at 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
Available to graduating seniors and graduate students who present a clear program of study to be carried out in a particular academic setting abroad. The grant allows students to conduct research or undertake advanced study or a teaching assistantship for one year in a foreign country. Fluency in the host language is preferred, a strong background in American Culture and current events of the host country are critical in selection.

MITCHELL AND GATES-CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop: Tuesday, August 26, at 4 p.m., Legare College, Room 322
The highly competitive Mitchell and Gates-Cambridge Scholarships will be discussed. These cover one to three years of graduate study at various institutions in the UK or Ireland. Each competition requires applicants to have a record of superior academic achievement, record of service and leadership, and be well informed on global issues. The University must nominate applicants in each competition.

JAVITS FELLOWSHIP
Workshop: Wednesday, September 3, at 4 p.m., Legare College, Room 322
Provides financial assistance to students of superior academic ability with demonstrated achievements to undertake study at the doctoral and masters of Fine Arts (MFA) level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop:  Monday, September 8, at 4 p.m., Legare College, Room 322
Scholarships up to $30,000 for graduate school. This scholarship is for Juniors (any major) preparing for a career in public service; leadership abilities, academic performance and potential, community service records, and commitment to public service are required. Must be nominated by the University.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF) GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
Workshop:  Wednesday, September 10, at 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
Three years of support (up to $115,000) for study and research in the sciences or in engineering, leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, behavioral, and social sciences, and in the history and philosophy of sciences. High GPA and high GRE General scores. Commitment to a career in research.
Application Deadlines vary according to discipline in early November 2008.

GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop:  Monday, September 15, at 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
Scholarship of $7,500 for one to two years of undergraduate study. Sophomores and juniors pursuing bachelors degrees in natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering; intent to earn a graduate degree in these fields to pursue a career in research and/or college-level teaching; strong GPA and research experience. Must be nominated by the University; no direct applications to the Goldwater Foundation will be accepted.

UDALL SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop:  Monday, September 29, at 4 p.m., Legare College, Room 322
One year of support for eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000. Sophomores and juniors, who study the environment and related fields, or Native Americans and Alaska Natives who have outstanding potential and are in fields related to health care or tribal public policy. College GPA of at least a B or equivalent; must be nominated by the University.

NATIONAL SECURITY EDUCATION PROGRAM (NSEP)
Workshop:  Mnday, October 6, at 4 p.m., Legare College, Room 322
NSEP supports outstanding undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate high levels of academic performance and strong motivation to internationalize their education by developing expertise in the languages, cultures, and world regions less commonly studied by Americans.
USC Nomination Deadline: December 5, 2008

KNOWLES TEACHING FELLOWSHIP
Workshop:  Tuesday, October 7, at 4 p.m., Legare College, 3rd floor
Graduating seniors and graduate students in science, engineering, or mathematics who want to teach high school science and/or mathematics are eligible. Knowles Fellows are supported professionally and financially for up to five years of graduate study and teacher preparation.
Application Deadline: Early January 2009.

RHODES AND MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop: Monday, October 27, at 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
The highly competitive Marshall and Rhodes Scholarship competitions will be discussed. These fellowships cover two to three years of graduate study at various institutions in the UK. Each competition requires applicants to have a record of superior academic achievement, record of service and leadership, and be well informed on global issues. The University must nominate applicants in each competition.

ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP
Workshop:  Monday, November 10, at 4 p.m., Gressette Room, Harper College
Scholars serve as ambassadors abroad while studying for one academic year or three months of language training. Any country where Rotary Clubs are located is considered. All class levels are eligible to apply. Applicants must apply through a local Rotary Club during the spring semester.
Application Deadline to local clubs: Spring 2009.
