A Well-Rounded Education
A liberal arts education encompasses the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences . Our students gain valuable skills - in critical thinking, communication and creativity
- that make them highly valued in the workplace for versatility and broad views of
the world. Your degree will prepare you for almost anything you want to do next, from
attending medical school or publishing a novel to joining the Peace Corps or embarking
on a military career.
A Multi-Faceted View of the World
Through our 19 diverse departments and schools and numerous programs , centers and institutes , we provide an education that expands the frontiers of knowledge, fosters lifelong
learning and prepares our graduates for a career within the rapidly changing 21st century
economy. We encourage you to identify your passion and pursue it here.
Personal Attention at a Big School
For many undergraduate students, living away from home for the first time can lead
to feeling a little lost. Our faculty and staff are invested in your success, and
you'll get the personal attention and, in many cases, small class sizes, that you
would in a smaller college.
Because we're part of a prestigious, top research university in the middle of a thriving
city, the opportunities you'll have here are seemingly endless. Here are just a few:
Be a Leader: In Fall of 2016, we launched our Global Studies BA program, positioning the university to educate the next generation of global leaders.
Engage in Research as an Undergraduate: Our psychology department conducts research across eight locations. More than 200 undergraduate students are
involved in independent study with psychology faculty annually. Other disciplines
also offer numerous research opportunities .
Secure an Internship: We believe in learning beyond the classroom and make every effort to explore the
university's vast alumni and local network to create internship opportunities for
our students.
Find a Career: Majoring in the liberal arts serves graduates well in a rapidly changing economy
where it has become common for employees to hold a number of different jobs over the
course of their working lives. We encourage all our students to begin thinking about
their career choices as early as freshman year.
The College of Arts and Sciences is USC's oldest and largest college, and we help
you take advantage of everything the university has to offer while giving you the
personal attention you need to grow.
