Microarray Core Facility

Sponsored in part by the COBRE Center for Translational Cancer Therapeutics, the Microarray Core Facility is a state-of-the-art facility that conducts gene expression profiling studies using microarrays — both the Agilent and Affymetrix platforms.

The Microarray Core Facility is a state-of-the-art facility that conducts gene expression profiling to monitor the levels of expression of all genes in the genome. Using our technology, a single experiment allows researchers to determine specific alterations in gene expression in various disease states, or progression, following exposure to drugs or chemicals.

Our Services

Custom Arrays

The facility is well equipped to provide custom microarrays for academic and industrial clients. So far we have successfully spotted cDNAs, 50 to 70 base pair oligonucleotides and 18 to 22 base pair short primers. In addition to nucleic acids, the Biochip Arrayer can spot antibodies, proteins, peptides and bacterial cells as well. We produce arrays of the highest quality but at a low density (up to about 2,000 spots per slide).

Array Design

We assist all clients in designing the appropriate microarray for your needs. We take the guesswork out of array alignment and maintain a high level of spatial precision throughout the printing run. Specification with regard to array design and spot placement is tightly monitored. This attention to detail results in saved scanner time and fewer auto format failures.

Hybridization

We provide extensive on site training and support for all MAUI 4-bay Hybridization System and Agilent’s Hybridization Oven users.

Scanning and Quantitation

Support is provided for spotted microarray scanning with ScanAray Express SP3 and quantitative analysis with ScanAray Express SP3 and ImaGene software.

Microarray Data Analysis

We assist customers with gene expression data analysis using limma/limmaGUI and GeneSifter software. Additionally, we perform cluster analysis using Cluster and Treeview software both from Eisen laboratory.

Analysis of RNA and DNA

Quantity and quality of RNA and DNA are determined with the help of Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer.
