Undergraduate Degree

B  B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (College of Arts and Sciences)

In the College of Arts and Sciences, students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree program. The degree program is individually designed by each student along with a committee of at least four faculty members from the student's areas of interest.

Bachelor of Arts students tend to focus within the humanities, social sciences and fine arts. Fields of study might include Southern studies, Middle Eastern studies, performance arts management, environmental studies or linguistics.

B  B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies (College of Arts and Sciences)

In the College of Arts and Sciences, students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree program. The degree program is individually designed by each student along with a committee of at least four faculty members from the student's areas of interest.

Bachelor of Science students tend to focus on fields of study such as biological sciences, chemistry, economics, geography, mathematics, psychology, sociology or statistics.

B  B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management)

The interdisciplinary studies program through the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) is an excellent path to choose for students who would like to achieve academic success by completing a degree that they have already started.

Similar to the program through Arts and Sciences, you will work with an adviser to design an individualized program of study. However, the primary course of study would include an HRSM discipline, which focuses strongly on learning the “business behind the business,” and developing management skills in the hospitality, tourism, retail, integrated information or sport industries.

B  Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BARSC - Honors College)

The Baccalaureus Artium et Scientiae (Bachelor of Arts and Sciences or BARSC) through the South Carolina Honors College is the most selective undergraduate degree program at the University of South Carolina and one of the most selective in the country. This degree allows you to design your own major. In order to be admitted to this program, you must be a fourth-semester Honors College student with a minimum GPA of 3.6.

Students must:

  • develop a program of study approved by a panel consisting of an associate dean and dean of the Honors College and two faculty advisers.
  • satisfy the general education requirements for both the B.S. and B.A. degrees.
  • complete the study of a foreign language into the third year.
