Dr. Brandi Anderson Joins College of Social Work as Faculty Lecturer

The University of South Carolina's College of Social Work is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Brandi Anderson, LICSW, SSW, CFSW, RYT, as a new full-time faculty member. With an impressive educational background and a commitment to empowering underserved populations, Dr. Anderson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the College.

Anderson is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Wayne State University (MSW) and the University of South Carolina (PhD). Her research interests center around magnifying the strengths and resilience of minority populations, with a particular focus on the use of cultural capital to enhance mental health and well-being. Her work also encompasses empowering underserved populations and communities, anti-racism, the implications of community violence and healing in homicide co-survivors.

With extensive experience in the field of social work, Dr. Anderson possesses a deep understanding of mental health, trauma-informed care and working with marginalized populations across various age groups. She holds an independent clinical license in multiple states and has served as a clinical director, continuing education instructor, field instructor and liaison, fully licensed school social worker and certified financial social worker.

As an accomplished educator, Dr. Anderson brings several years of teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has also made significant contributions to various professional committees and worked in collaboration with national organizations such as the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and Grand Challenges, focusing on enhancing the lives of underserved communities.

“As a doctoral student in the College’s social work program, I was able to quickly see firsthand how integral it is for emerging social work leaders to practice what they preach. Attending USC, a world renowned R1 institution, I was fortunate to study, learn and work alongside seasoned faculty, many of whom constitute master researchers in the profession. Now, it is an honor to not only be a part of the ranks of doctoral social work leaders, but to also impart my clinical and research expertise into the next generation of scholars,” says Anderson. “I always admired faculty and the ability they had to change the direction of the profession…now I get to play an active role in that change, and I couldn’t be more excited!”

Dean Teri Browne says Anderson will be a valuable addition to the college.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Anderson to our faculty. With her extensive research and teaching experience, she will be a great asset to our College.”

The College of Social Work will welcome Dr. Brandi Anderson to its faculty beginning this fall. Her teaching expertise and commitment to empowering underserved populations will enrich USC’s academic community and contribute to positive change within the field of social work.
