National political analysts to discuss S.C. primary

As the nation’s eyes turn to South Carolina’s first in the South GOP primary, the University of South Carolina will host a public panel discussion Jan. 18 that will feature several national political analysts.
The panel, at 7 p.m. in Gambrell Hall Room 153, will feature Dan Balz, political correspondent for the Washington Post; Jeffrey Zeleny, political correspondent for The New York Times; and Thomas Edsall, professor at the Columbia Journalism School. Laura Woliver, a USC political science professor, will moderate.
Balz has served as national editor, political editor, White House correspondent and a Southwest correspondent at The Washington Post. He has written two books, including The New York Times bestseller “The Battle For America 2008.”
Zeleny covers the White House and covered the 2008 presidential campaign. Before joining The New York Times in 2006, he was a national political correspondent for the Chicago Tribune.
Edsall worked at The Washington Post for 25 years covering all aspects of national politics, before joining the faculty at Columbia University as its Joseph Pulitzer II and Edith Pulitzer Moore Professor of Journalism. He is columnist for The New York Times and a correspondent for The New Republic. He has written five books on American politics.
