Hurricane inspires 'Based on Images' performance
A pair of visiting faculty artists at the University of South Carolina will present an original interpretative work for dance and theater May 27 – 28 that is inspired by national media images of Hurricane Katrina.
Choreographed by Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman-Davis, “Based on Images” will take place at 7 p.m. in Drayton Hall Theatre. The Wideman/Davis Dance Company will perform the Katrina-inspired work as well as an additional piece to the music of Etta James and James Brown.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and $7 for children ages 12 and younger. Advance tickets are available through the Carolina Coliseum box office, via phone at 803-777-5112, online at www.capitoltickets.com and at the door.
On May 26, a panel discussion on Hurricane Katrina will take place at 7 p.m. in Drayton Hall. The panel will feature university faculty members, including Davis, Wideman-Davis and Dr. James Barilla of the English department. Barilla’s writing on Katrina inspired portions of the choreography. An excerpt of “Based on Images” will be performed.
