Daily Gamecock newspaper recognized for excellence
The University of South Carolina’s student newspaper, The Daily Gamecock, earned four regional awards at the 32nd Annual Southern University Newspapers Advertising Conference (SUN) held Sept. 24-25 in Charlotte, N.C.
The four awards included:
- First place for the "Welcome Back" issue for Percentage Growth
- First place for Best Marketing Package
- First place for Best Advertising Campaign or Series for "Stand Up Carolina"
- Third place for the Best Special Section for its 2012 Football Preview
The Daily Gamecock’s student sales representative Adam Harms, a senior advertising major, took home second place in the Live Sales Competition held at the conference.
The Daily Gamecock, part of the Department of Student Life’s Student Media, is the editorially independent student-run newspaper at the University of South Carolina and has been publishing since 1908. The newspaper publishes 10,000 copies daily, Monday through Friday, and online at www.dailygamecock.com.
Southern University Newspaper (SUN) was established in 1979 to provide advertising training to southern college newspaper’s students and professionals.
Membership is open to four-year collegiate newspapers that are non-profit organizations or university entities and managed by a full-time, professional staff or faculty member.
