Continued: Sustainability Week
The Earth Summit will take place 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Green (West) Quad Learning Center. All faculty, staff and students of the university are invited to attend the summit, where they can share and learn about the sustainability efforts taking place and planned across the university and provide input to establish and refine the university’s sustainability goals.
A complete schedule of Sustainability Week events is available online at http://greenquadcommunity.org/
Among the other events are the Green Action Film Series viewing of “The Story of Stuff” (Oct. 15), a Greenbag lunch on global sustainability with faculty and student speakers discussing sustainable development around the world (Oct. 19), and an evening discussion on bio-fuels featuring local experts and students from Net Impact (Oct. 21).
Sustainability Week comes as the university continues to celebrate a number of green success stories. In August, Honors Residence, a new residence hall designed and built to Gold LEED standards, opened, and the university earned a green rating of 95 (out of a possible 99) from Princeton Review. Last week, the university earned a B rating on the College Sustainability Report Card 2010 (GreenReportCard.org), improving in seven of nine categories and placing it among the best universities in the Southeast. The annual green rating of U.S. universities and colleges is compiled by the Sustainable Endowments Institute.
