A mover and shaker in the business of fashion will bring her brand of expertise to the University of South Carolina Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a symposium sponsored by the Department of Retailing in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) and Fashion Group International.
Rosanna Krekel, regional director of the Fashion Group International of Charleston, Inc. will give the keynote address for the symposium.
The program is set for 6-8 p.m. in the Arnold School of Public Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield Auditorium, 921 Assembly St. in Columbia.
During a 20-year career, Krekel has been a trailblazer in the fashion and beauty industries, as executive beauty director at Glamour, fashion director at Rolling Stone and accessories and jewelry manager at Elle. She was one of the founding officers of the multi-media start-up, 2D Interactive.
Robert Butt, Fashion Group International member, said Krekel will talk about what’s trending in fashion, while a highlight of the evening will be the showing of the film, “Ready to Wear Best of the Runway from Paris, Milan, London and New York for the Spring/Summer 2013.”
“The caliber of people Fashion Group International represents and brings to this state is unbelievable at times. Having worked with Rosanna closely over the last three years to develop our statewide organization has been challenging but so rewarding,” Butt said.
Fashion Group International (FGI), a co-sponsor of the event, is a global, non-profit professional organization known as the preeminent authority on the business of fashion and design. It has a mission to guide its 5,000 members to successful careers. FGI provides insights on major trends in person, online and in print; access to business professionals; and a gateway to the influence fashion plays in the marketplace.
“The Department of Retailing is thrilled to be co-hosting this exciting event, and to welcome Rosanna Krekel to campus. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening where students, faculty and fashion professionals get together to network and learn about trends for the upcoming season,” said Karen Edwards, senior instructor in the Department of Retailing and FGI member.
The admission is free for USC students, but donations will be accepted at the door. Tickets to the symposium for FGI member are $20, $35 for non-members, and are available at brownpapertickets.com/event/293425.
