Every Monday during the summer months, Jami Campbell and 13 teams of faculty and staff members and students take to the bowling lanes. It’s a chance for socializing, competition and teambuilding. Some staffers dress in ’80s garb complete with legwarmers and fanny packs to match the steady stream of up-beat music blaring from the speakers.
Campbell and these USC faculty and staff members are a part of the summer intramural bowling league run by the Intramural Sports Office in Campus Recreation.
“It’s time to release and interact maybe with staff members you wouldn’t in your daily job,” says Campbell, a community outreach director in Student Life.
The next bowling league starts up in July with registration ending June 26. The teams meet at Park Lanes in Cayce at 7 p.m. on Mondays.
Golf is also popular with faculty and staff members. Intramural Sports reserves tee times on Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m. at Cobblestone Park, in Blythewood.
“It gives you time to play nine holes after work, hopefully improve your golf game and just enjoy the sport,” says Will Kramer, intramural sports coordinator.
